Abstract:
A sterling silver jewelry alloy that has approximately 0.01-7.50% fine
gold content that has similar color huge and shine and characteristics of
sterling silver. Karatium Sterling is a unique alloy blend that will
provide the traditional sterling silver jewelry designer with a special
metal that is slightly more tarnish resistant than traditional sterling
silver. The alloy has the following compositions by weight; Gold
0.01.00-7.50%, Silver 92.50-97.50%, Copper 0.01-7.00%. In addition to its
nice silver color it also polishes easier with a better luster and
provides jewelry craftsmen a slightly higher cost silver alloy that
responds well to the jewelry manufacturing process (e.g., casting,
milling, soldering, tooling, stone setting, polishing and plating).Claims:
1. A sterling silver metal alloy of 0.01-7.50% fine gold that has a white
(silver) color and resist tarnishing and the discoloration of skin
2. Has all of the same jewelry workability as traditional sterling silver.
3. Consist of: TABLE-US-00001 Element Mill alloy (%) Casting alloy (%) Patent range (%) Au 2.50 2.50 0.01-7.50 Ag 92.50 92.50 92.50-97.50 Cu 5.00 4.90 0.01-7.00 Zn No more than 5.00 Si No more than 1.00 Ir No more than 0.50 Ge 0.10 No more than 1.00 B No more than 0.10

BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
[0003]In the development of Karatium Pink, Yellow and White and studying the laws of the metals Act of 1906 I learned a great deal about the legalities of name use with gold and silver. While studying about sterling silver and understanding the great attributes of gold I thought why not replace some of the copper content in the sterling with fine gold knowing that gold polishes and casts well. There was no color difference noticeable to the eye. It seems that there can be a jewelry market niche for a "designer silver" much like 18 karat gold is considered designer gold and 14 karat more traditional. This "why not attitude" led to the invention of Karatium Sterling.
