SPECIFICATION
[0005] The "AIR PILLOW" would consist of a specially designed, foam pillow would feature an internal, rubber or vinyl bladder. This modernized pillow would be inflated by the use of built-in air pump that would be operated manually by pumping air into the bladder or lining. A soft, fabric pillowcase would cover this pillow and could be easily removed for laundering.
[0006] It appears that "AIR PILLOW" could be produced easily using conventional and readily available material and manufacturing process. No new production technology would be required.
[0007] The "AIR PILLOW" could be produced from foam rubber.
[0008] The inner bladder or lining could be produced from Silicone. Silicone compounds are polymers with stability and flexibility and are extremely resistant to both high and low temperatures as well as being resistant to oils, dilute acids, and sunlight. Some silicone compounds are noteworthy adhesives and are used as sealants. Unlike other synthetic rubber compounds, silicone polymers are not heat-reversible (do not melt) once they are processed and undergo polymerization. It could also be produced from Down.
[0009] The pillow case or cover could be produced from various products such as, cotton, cotton/polyester, satin, flannel, ect. This product could be cut to size by the use of power shears, then hemmed, seamed, and otherwise stitched as desired.
[0010] For use, a person would manually pump air into the bladder of the "AIR PILLOW" to inflate the pillow. This built-in air pump would dispense air into the pillow or release it from the pillow to raise or lower the pillow. The "AIR PILLOW" would provide greater support for the head, neck, and back, which would help contribute to an overall more restful and enjoyable nights sleep. This modernized pillow would never become flat or uncomfortable to sleep on throughout the night. It could have special appeal to individuals of all ages who may have difficulty sleeping or suffer from insomnia. It could be produced from rubber and in various colors, shapes, and styles. The "AIR PILLOW" could also be produced in standard, Queen, and King sizes. As well as the home, this pillow could also be used in hospitals and nursing homes.
[0011] I believe "AIR PILLOW" would fulfill the need for a means of providing head, neck, and back support to rest or sleep in a more relaxed position.
[0012] The appealing features of "AIR PILLOW" would be its effectiveness, added comfort it would provide, adjustable design, convenience, novelty, practicality, ease of use, portability, decorative appeal, and durability. This new type of pillow would never become flat throughout the night, which would allow the user to relax or sleep in comfort. It could be used while relaxing or sleeping in bed and could contribute to a better nights sleep. The "AIR PILLOW" would increase a persons comfort while relaxing or sleeping and would prevent head and neck stiffness and pain during the night. In addition, its modified design would allow the unit to be easily deflated so it could be compactly stored and transported while traveling. The "AIR PILLOW" would also be used to prop up the head while reading in bed, as well as support an injured limb, neck or back. It would be personalized to each user and would not need to be fluffed. This pillow would be novel and eye-catching in design to add to the decor of any bedroom. As well as the home, "AIR PILLOW" could also be used in hospitals and nursing homes.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0013] I found that the best recovery from an illness is rest. And sleep is very important to everyone in order to function effectively during the day.
[0014] Many times during the night, I find myself waking up to readjust my pillows. They get flat during the night and if I stack too many on top of the others, it becomes very unconfortable. I have friends that experience the same problem. In my research, I also found out that some neck and back discomforts were attributed to a restless night and sleep depravation. I have spend as much as $100.00 on one (1) pillow in search for a solution to my delimma, and it only worked for a very short period of time.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0015] The "MR PILLOW" will allow the individual to pump the inner bladder in order to inflat to a desired firmness. The adjusting is simple and can be changed while laying on it. The pump is attached to a durable rubber or Silicone bladder which is housed in a variety of fabrics such as cotton, cotton/polyester, satin or flannel. Down or cotton would surround the bladder inside the outer housing. The attached pump would inflat or deflat when manually activated by squeezing. The bladder would then be stationary until squeezed again. The pump is tucked away inside the pillow housing until ready to be used again. The "AIR PILLOW" can be manufactured in standard, queen or king size. It is my contention that the "AIR PILLOW" will help eliminate many of the problems people experience during the night trying to get a good nights sleep.
BRIEF DESCRIPTON OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING
[0016] Drawing 1. Identifies the internal bladder. There is only one (1) view because the bladder is flat until pumped up and the front and back look the same. The section on the right of drawing 1, marked (a) identifies where the tubing will connect to the bladder.
[0017] Drawing 2. Identifies the pump which will activate the bladder. There is only one (1) view of the pump as the back side has a flat surface. The section on top of drawing 2, identified as (b) is where the pump will connect to the pump.
[0018] Drawing 3. Identifies the rubber tubing that connects the bladder to the pump. There is only one (1) view because the tubing is the same all around.
[0019] All drawings are not to scale.
DETAILED DESCRIPTON OF THE INVENTION
[0020] The "Air Pillow" can be produced easily using conventional and readily available materials and manufacturing that already exist. No new production technology would be required.
[0021] The fact that the "Air Pillow" has an internal bladder with attachable pump, is what distinguishes this pillow from any other.
[0022] The "Air Pillow" bladder will be produced from Silicone. Silicone compounds are polymers with stability and flexibility and are extremely resistant to both high and low temperatures as well as being resistant to oils, dilute acids, and sunlight.
[0023] The pump will also be produced form silicone as well at the tubing which attaches the bladder to the pump.
[0024] The bladder and pump are surrounded by pillow "stuffing" such as down, goose down, cotton, etc. The housing of the bladder, pump and stuffing will consist of various fabrics such as cotton, cotton/polyester, satin, flannel, etc.
[0025] Manufacturing the "Air Pillow" will come from the use of the traditional Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce to structure their databases of manufactures. Under the SIC system, each manufacturing category is assigned a numerical classification code. The following represents the number of manufactures classified in the broad category corresponding to "Air Pillow".
[0026] 2,437 Manufactures of Fabricated Rubber Products, n.e.c (SIC 3069)
[0027] 1,904 Manufactures of Textile House furnishings, Except Curtains and Drapes (SIC 2392)
[0028] In 1997 the U.S. Department of Commerce implemented a new classification system, the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) which is a more comprehensive way for the Department of commerce to report economic statistics. Both systems continue to be used and will be used to identify a suitable manufacture for the "Air Pillow".
