20110301542 | Passive safety portal device - A portal access assembly includes an inserter that has a needle, a cap moveable along the length of the needle and an infuser having a cannula through which the needle extends. A safety mechanism inside the cap allows the needle to be moved relative to the cap so long as the shaft of the needle biases against an edge of one of the legs of the mechanism. After the cannula is properly positioned in the implanted port to establish a fluid path between the port and the infuser, the needle is removed by being pulled upwards until it no longer biases the one leg of the mechanism. At which time the safety mechanism fixedly captures the needle inside the cap to prevent the contaminated tip of the needle from being exposed to the environment. At the same time, the cap is detached from the infuser. | 12-08-2011 |
20110092921 | Portal with septum embedded indicia - An implantable portal includes a septum that has embedded therein an indicia adapted to identify at least one characteristic of the portal. The indicia may be formed as an impression at a base layer of the septum, and is filled with a radiopaque material. The septum base layer is covered by liquid silicone, which bonds with the septum base layer when solidified, so that an integral one-piece septum, with the identifier indicia embedded therein, is effected. The indicia embedded septum is fitted to the reservoir housing of the portal for providing identification information for that portal. The septum embedded indicia is viewable visually and also by x-ray or computer tomography imaging. | 04-21-2011 |
20090287153 | Device and Method for Insertion of a Cannula of an Infusion Device - A device for inserting a subcutaneous infusion device into skin of a patient. The device can include a housing, a needle hub including a needle, a sleeve, and a spring engaging the needle hub. The device can also include a cap coupled to the housing, and a retention member configured to maintain the device in a ship state prior to decoupling of the cap from the housing. In one example, the retention member can include a boss coupled to the cap and configured to engage the infusion device to maintain the infusion device in the ship state prior to decoupling of the cap from the housing. In another example, the retention member can include a tab formed by the sleeve, the tab engaging a bead on an internal surface of the cap when the sleeve moves relative to the housing while the device is in the ship state. | 11-19-2009 |
20090275886 | DISPLAY FOR AN INSULIN PUMP - This document discusses, among other things, an apparatus comprising a pump configured to deliver insulin, a processor, and a user interface including a bistable display. A display element of the bistable display is placed in one of two stable orientations upon application of a biasing voltage and stays in the stable orientation when the biasing voltage is removed. The processor includes a display module configured to display a non-blank reversion display screen on the bistable display when no input is received at the user interface after a specified time duration, and to recurrently change the reversion display screen until input is received at the user interface. | 11-05-2009 |
20090264825 | Subcutaneous Infusion Device and Device for Insertion of a Cannula of an Infusion Device and Method - An infusion device including a site and a set for delivery of a substance to a patient. The site can include a cannula that is introduced into a subcutaneous layer of skin of the patient. The set can be coupled to the site by placing the set over the site and moving the set from an unlocked to a locked position. The set can be oriented at multiple rotational orientations with respect to the site, and can be coupled and uncoupled with the site multiple times. Also included is a device for inserting a subcutaneous infusion device into a subcutaneous layer of skin of a patient. Some devices automatically retract a needle used to introduce the cannula. Upon full introduction of the needle and associated cannula of the subcutaneous infusion device into a subcutaneous layer of skin of a patient, the device can move the needle into a retracted state. | 10-22-2009 |
20090240203 | Tip protector for cannula, trocar and/or cannula trocar combination - A needle protector that protects the tip or distal end of a cannula, a trocar, or a cannula/trocar combination, is provided by an extruded tubing that has at least a section thereof that includes one or a plurality of protrusions or protuberances that are configured in a given fashion so that there is a slight bend created at that section of the tube, when the tube is fitted onto a cannula or trocar with the protrusions coming into contact with the outer diameter surface of the cannula or trocar. This results in friction contact between the protrusions and the cannula or trocar to maintain the tube protector in place relative to the cannula or trocar. The protrusions may be punched or lanced in the tube to a given depth towards the interior of the tube to establish a given friction contact so that a predetermined force is required to be exerted in order to separate the tube protector from the cannula, trocar or a combination where the trocar is fitted into the cannula with the tip of the trocar extending beyond the distal end of the cannula. | 09-24-2009 |
20090177248 | Synchronizing Clocks on a Medical Device and Server - Methods and systems of patient treatment are disclosed. The methods and systems include use of medical device informatics to modify and validate therapies and drugs used in those therapies. In certain embodiments, a medical device, such as a medical infusion pump, interfaces with a server to administer the patient treatments. In one aspect, a method of synchronizing clocks between a medical device and a medical device server is disclosed. The method includes maintaining a server time value on a medical device server communicatively connected to a medical device, and transmitting the server time value from the medical device server to the medical device, the medical device maintaining a device time value. The method further includes replacing the device time value with the server time value. | 07-09-2009 |
20090177142 | INSULIN PUMP WITH ADD-ON MODULES - This document discusses, among other things, an apparatus comprising a pump configured to deliver insulin, a wireless communication port, a controller, and a housing to enclose the apparatus. The controller is configured to communicate with a second device via the communication port using an open standard wireless communication protocol. The housing includes a mechanical coupling to slidably engage the second device which includes a second wireless communication port. Slidably engaging the second device positions the first and second communication ports opposite each other to allow communication via the first and second communication ports when slidably engaged. | 07-09-2009 |
20090158274 | Software Development Kit for a Medical Device and Web-Based Server - Methods and systems of patient treatment are disclosed.
