20080282786 | OIL SENSING SYSTEM FOR AN INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE - A system for detecting a characteristic of oil in a reservoir includes a sensor at least partially located in the reservoir. The sensor has a chamber for receiving oil from the reservoir, a detector member in the chamber, and an electromagnetic coil. Application of voltage across the electromagnetic coil moves the detector member and the presence and viscosity of oil in the chamber affects the rate of that movement. The electric current through the electromagnetic coil is measured and analyzed to determine an amount of time that the detector member took to move between two positions in the chamber. That amount of time is used to determine whether there is at least a predefined amount of oil in the reservoir and, if so, the viscosity of the oil. | 11-20-2008 |
20090120177 | Method for monitoring the performance of a compression-ignition, internal combustion engine - A method for monitoring the performance of a compression-ignition, internal combustion engine which method comprises lubricating the engine with a crankcase lubricant, and introducing a fuel to the engine to operate the engine characterised in that the fuel comprises greater than 50% by weight of petroleum-based, middle distillate fuel oil and/or a Fischer Tropsch derived middle distillate fuel oil and 2.5% to 25% by weight of at least one lower alkyl ester of a fatty acid, and the performance of the engine is monitored by measuring the rate of ingress of lower alkyl ester of a fatty acid from the fuel into the crankcase lubricant by infra red spectroscopic analysis of the crankcase lubricant. | 05-14-2009 |
20150316398 | SYSTEM FOR MEASURING AN OIL RETENTION VOLUME IN A LUBRICATING SYSTEM - A system for measuring an oil retention volume of a first member of an engine lubricating system, the injected oil flowing inside the first member mixed with a first air volume, the mixture forming a first fluid, the measuring system including an oil injector at the inlet of the lubricating system; a first flowmeter to measure a first oil flow rate at the inlet of the lubricating system; a second flowmeter at the outlet of the first member to measure a second flow rate of the first fluid at the outlet of the first member; a measuring device to calculate a first value representing a quantity of oil in a volume of the first fluid flowing inside the first member; a calculator to calculate a third oil flow rate at the outlet from the second flow rate of the first fluid measured and the first value calculated and the instantaneous oil retention volume in the first member from the comparison of the first oil flow rate with the third oil flow rate. | 11-05-2015 |

20100223986 | ANOMALY DETECTION APPARATUS FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - One embodiment of the present invention provides an anomaly detection apparatus for an automatic transmission, the automatic transmission including an electrically-operated oil pump that is rotationally driven by an electric motor, including: a solenoid that is capable of switching a line pressure of a hydraulic control circuit that controls the automatic transmission between a high pressure and a low pressure; and an oil pressure switch that is turned on or off in response to the line pressure, wherein, in response to an oil pressure command value, whether the oil pressure switch is turned on or off according to the oil pressure command value is determined, and the determination and a load state of the electrically-operated oil pump are compared so as to distinctively determine in which of the solenoid and the oil pressure switch, an anomaly has occurred. | 09-09-2010 |
20120291535 | OIL MIST DETECTOR TEST RIG - An oil mist detector test rig including an oil container, an aerosol generator, an oil mist detector, and a collection unit. The aerosol generator generates fluid aerosol in the oil container. The oil mist detector is configured to provide a first reading based on a concentration of the generated fluid aerosol in the oil container. Additionally, the collection unit is configured to provide a second reading based on the concentration of the generated fluid aerosol in the oil container. | 11-22-2012 |
20120291536 | OIL-PRESSURE DETERMINATION APPARATUS OF ENGINE - A state of an oil pressure is determined based on combination of activation of an oil pressure switch and information of the temperature detected by a temperature sensor and an engine speed detected by an engine speed sensor such that determination of the oil-pressure state is conducted from a lower engine-speed range in a case in which the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is relatively low, compared with a case in which the temperature detected by the temperature sensor is relatively high. Accordingly, the oil-pressure state can be properly determined not only in a high engine-speed range but in a low engine-speed range, by utilizing the simple oil pressure switch activated to the conductive state in response to the oil pressure. | 11-22-2012 |
20130008244 | DEVICE AND METHOD FOR OIL PRESSURE SENSOR FAULT SENSING FOR VEHICLE - A fault sensing device for a vehicle includes a time measuring section functioning as a sleep mode while power to a controller is off. The time measuring section can measure a stop time of an engine, and can transmit information on the stop time to the controller when power to the controller is on. When the controller determines that a stop time of the engine is a predetermined time, the controller performs fault sensing for an oil pressure switch. | 01-10-2013 |
